Class Title: “wayward threads” silk ribbon scarf
Description: Arashi Shibori (pronounced ah-rah’-she she-boar’-ee) loosely translated means “wind driven rain” or “storm sky”. This technique involves wrapping the silk ribbon around a pole, binding with string, scrunching it together, and applying dye. This is the technique we will use to dye silk ribbons and then construct them into a “wayward threads” scarf. Ribbons will be laid out on a length of water soluble stabilizer and then a grid is sewn using a sewing machine. The stabilizer gives us something to sew onto but then dissolves when washed after sewing leaving us with a wonderful open weave like scarf!
